Clean the filters
First of all, inspect the air inlet filters. The filters can get accumulated with debris and other kinds of buildup during processing. Clean the filters well if they are not clean already. Don’t wait for the compressor to slow down to clean the filters. Make sure to schedule a filter cleanup over regular periods.
Perform a pump up test
The right way to see how much time your compressor is taking to build pressure is performing a pump up test. Here is how you can perform it:
Empty the air tank and close the discharge service valve. Start from 0 and record the time the compressor takes to reach the required PSI.

Inspect belt condition
Disconnect the power and turn of the machine to start inspecting the belt condition. Get rid of the belt guard and start working on the bolts. You can replace or tighten the belt as per requirement. Read the manufacturer guidelines really well to perform any replacement. Tighten the bolts and set up the belt guard again.
Check pump rings
Worn out pump rings can reduce the pressure buildup and make the air leak through the system. It can also lead to excess oil transmission. Check the pump rings and see if they need replacement. Get done with it as soon as possible if it happens to be the issue.
Examine motor capacitors
Malfunctioning capacitors mean the machine is not getting enough power supply to function properly. Examine them yourself or hire a professional if you don’t know how to inspect and replace them.
Inspect the Air/Oil separator
The compressors that use oil as lubricant have oil separators to prevent excess mixing of oil with air. If the air/oil separator is not clean and has buildup and clogging, it can lead to poor performance of the machine. Poorly functioning machine fails to reach the desired pressure and you end up with increased costs. Make sure everything is cleaned well on time.
