Hot weather in Summers not only affects humans but also the air compressors under operations as overheating is a common issue in air compressors. According to air compressor manufacturers in India, overheating can cause damage to air compressor components if it sustains for a long time without being attended to, which is why it becomes important to resolve overheating issues as soon as it happens. The whole compressed air system could be under threat if heating issues persist which can happen due to multiple reasons. There are obviously preventive measures which could be taken to avoid overheating issues which we will discuss later in the article so it becomes the responsibility of the operator using the air compressor to take such preventive measures and act upon quickly when overheating issues begin.

Causes of overheating in Air Compressors

There are a lot of reasons why overheating can happen in air compressed systems and we will discuss them in brief below

  • Poor Maintenance

If your compressor doesn’t receive routine maintenance, clogged pipes, unclean, damaged filters, and inner components that are obstructed might cause overheating. Ensure proper maintenance is done periodically to avoid these things so that not only overheating issues could be managed but the life of the air compressor could be enhanced too

  • Aged equipment

A compressor that is outdated or that is put through a lot of use is more prone to overheating because using an equipment beyond its age or capacity is always prohibited as it can cause many other issues as well apart from overheating because aged air compressors are prone to wear and tear that should be taken care of periodically.

  • Improper ventilation

If the compressor chamber does not have adequate ventilation, overheating may occur since the compressor system has to be able to cool itself.

  • High Ambient Room temperature

How to know if the air compressor is overheating?

Here are a few typical indications of compressor overheating:

  • Compressor is not starting

Overheating may be at blame if your compressor stops during starting or, worse worse, won’t turn on at all. Longer rest intervals between cycles and a compressor that takes significantly longer to attain peak functioning are two further indicators.

  • Compressor is making crackling sounds

Inadequate lubrication of the compressor’s internal components may be indicated by the compressor making crackling and crackling noises or by the smell of burnt oil. Overheating is caused by a lack of lubrication because lubrication acts as a coolant.

How to prevent Air compressor from overheating?

Check the vents on your compressor to make sure they are not just clean but also the right size for the machine. Additionally, make sure the compressor room is well aired; if not, consider moving the compressor to a better location. Keep in mind that these inspections must happen often. Because lubrication serves as a coolant, you should often check the oil and lubricant levels in your compressor. Additionally, the heat level may already be too high if the oil is thin or seems watery.
